What does L mean?
L stands for loss. You use it for something that goes wrong or someone who embarrasses themselves.
"I slept through my exam. Massive L."
Taking an L means you lose or something ends badly. Telling someone to "take the L" means they should just accept the loss. The opposite is a W. Also read what crash out means.
