What does Leenstelsel mean?
The leenstelsel (loan system) was the Dutch system where students paid for their studies with a loan from DUO.
Because of the leenstelsel she finished her studies with a big debt to DUO.
Dutch student slang. This is a Dutch word. You will hear it a lot at Dutch universities, student associations and in student houses.
Between 2015 and 2023 Dutch students got no free basic grant. Instead they borrowed money they had to pay back later. The students from those years call themselves the pechgeneratie, the unlucky generation. Since 2023 there is a basic grant again. Also read what stufi means.
