What does Cursist mean?
Cursist is a teasing word some Dutch university students use for students at a university of applied sciences (hbo).
"So are you a cursist or do you actually study?" he joked to his hbo friend.
Dutch student slang. This is a Dutch word. You will hear it a lot at Dutch universities, student associations and in student houses.
The Netherlands has research universities (wo) and universities of applied sciences (hbo). Some wo students like to tease hbo students by calling them course takers, or cursisten. It is a joke, mostly. Hbo students usually have a few jokes of their own ready. Also read what cursus means.
