Dutch student slang
What does Cursus mean?
Cursus (Dutch for course) is a teasing word some Dutch university students use for an hbo programme.
"Are you doing a degree or just a cursus?" he asked with a grin.
Dutch student slang. This is a Dutch word. You will hear it a lot at Dutch universities, student associations and in student houses.
It is said with a light mocking tone. The joke is that an hbo programme would be lighter than a university degree. Like a little course. It is all part of the friendly rivalry between wo and hbo students. Also read what cursist means.
