Flaneren means walking around to be seen, for example at the sociëteit or in town.
In his new suit he strolled confidently through the sociëteit.
Dutch student slang. This is a Dutch word. You will hear it a lot at Dutch universities, student associations and in student houses.
The goal is simple: look and be seen. Dutch students do it at the sociëteit, in town or on the street during a night out. It comes from the French flâner. Basically a slow victory lap with no victory.
