What does Out of pocket mean?
Out of pocket means inappropriate, over the line or unexpectedly shocking.
"At the first dinner with her parents he asked about her body count. Totally out of pocket."
You say it when someone crosses a social line. A comment, joke or question that makes no sense. In other situations out of pocket means something you pay yourself. That is a completely different meaning. Also read about unhinged, TMI and cringe.
