What does Sharken mean?
Sharken (sharking) means stealing someone else's date, usually at a gala or datediner.
During the gala the sharken between the tables started pretty fast.
Dutch student slang. This is a Dutch word. You will hear it a lot at Dutch universities, student associations and in student houses.
It mostly happens when you don't click with your own date, but do click with someone else's. Usually at a gala or datediner. Not the nicest move. But it makes for great stories the next day. Also read what galaplicht means.
