Jeu de bier
Jeu de bier is a Dutch drinking game. Think pétanque, but on a table and with beer caps. The bar is set a little lower too. Perfect to kick off the night.
You need almost nothing. A few caps. A target. A table. And people who think they can aim really well.
What is Jeu de bier?

In Jeu de bier you slide or throw beer caps towards a target on the table or on the floor. The target can be another beer cap or something you draw with a pen. Think of a dot, a circle or a cross.
Every player gets a few caps. Then everyone takes turns sliding or throwing a cap towards the target. Whoever gets closest wins the round.
How does it work?
First draw a target on the table. Use something that is easy to wipe off. A piece of paper with a cross on it works fine too.
Give every player three beer caps.
Then you play like this:
- Everyone takes turns sliding or throwing one cap towards the target.
- Keep going until all caps have been played.
- Check which caps are closest to the target.
- The player with the best cap wins the round.
- Everyone else drinks.
When do you drink?
Different versions
- The winner of the round or the game gets to hand out a drink to down
- The winner gets to hand out a sip
- The winner doesn't drink. The rest does. If the winner has 2 caps closer than number 2, the rest drinks 2 sips. 3 caps means 3 sips, and so on.
Extra rules for more chaos
Jeu de bier doesn't need many rules. But a few extra rules do make it more fun.
- Does your cap land right on the target? Hand out sips
- Does your cap fall off the table? Drink.
- Win two rounds in a row? Double sips.
