Dutch student slang
What does ALV mean?
ALV stands for "Algemene Ledenvergadering", the general members' meeting where members of a Dutch association have their say.
At the ALV the members voted on the new budget of the association.
Dutch student slang. This is a Dutch word. You will hear it a lot at Dutch universities, student associations and in student houses.
During the ALV the board explains what it has been doing and members vote on big decisions. Think of the budget or changes to the rules. They can take hours. Drinks afterwards are pretty much mandatory. Also read about bestuur, almanak and ab actis.
