What does Gap year mean?
A gap year is a year between school, studies or work in which you do something else.
"After my exams I'm taking a gap year. First six months of backpacking through South America."
People use a gap year to travel, work, volunteer or figure out what they want. In the Netherlands it is called a tussenjaar. Afterwards you often start your studies with more motivation. Also read about bucket list and study abroad.
