What does Studentenvereniging mean?

At her studentenvereniging she met more people in one year than in all her years of secondary school.

Dutch student slang. This is a Dutch word. You will hear it a lot at Dutch universities, student associations and in student houses.

Members come from different programmes and universities. Most associations have their own sociëteit, disputen, jaarclubs and traditions. Some are huge and traditional, like the corps. Others are small and relaxed. It is a bit like an American frat or sorority, Dutch style. Also read about dispuut and bestuur.
